Best Beaches on the Maui’s North Shore

Baldwin Beach (Baby Beach)

When Maui’s North shore is referred to we mean the Paia and Haiku Area, the area East of the Kahului Airport. There’s not nearly as many beaches on this side, but the ones here are pretty and worth checking out.

1. Baldwin Beach

This beach is a long sandy stretch of beach lined with ironwood trees. It’s 1.5 mile long stretch to “baby beach” on its south end makes for a peaceful and beautiful run. It’s best to visit this beach in the morning before the wind kicks up and blasts sand at you along the majority of the stretch. Baby Beach is a great spot to escape the wind and has about an 80 meter tide pool for you to swim in; a great place to bring kids to swim.

2. Ho’okipa Beach Park

Ho’okipa Beach Park is a beautiful sandy beach with small tide pools lining the sand. This is not the place to get into the ocean unless you are planning on surfing especially during the winter months due to the large waves, rocky bottom, and strong currents. This is a great place to watch big wave surfing and windsurfing. The north end of the beach is a very popular place to catch a view of a bunch of turtles taking their midday naps.

3. Paia Bay

During the winter time this can be a good place for intermediate surfers to test their skills over the soft waves that break over sand bottoms. This beach is perched just before Paia town and is an excellent place to lay out, cool off in the water, and boogie board.

These beaches aren’t as pristine as the south and west shores of Maui, but they have their own special essence about them.
